BSc. Anesthesia and Operation Theatre Technology

OVERVIEW

A 4 year course, have been started from academic year 2019 with 40 students.

Under the program, the eligible candidates are provided training in all types of equipment that are used for Anesthesia, Surgery and In critical/emergency care units, different Anesthesia agents, the techniques that need to be used for giving Anesthesia as well as its allowable dosage which depends on the patient and operational conditions , they also gain a good knowledge of the correct equipment that needs to be used, the work and management of operational theater , responsibility for caring all the surgical instruments and additionally , disinfection and sterilization.

The subjects that are taught during the 4 years of graduation include, Anesthesia technology, scrub techniques , fundamentals of operation theater, handling machineries, fundamentals of emergency and critical care units, and several topics related to the medical technology are also covered in this course.

The student will be able to monitor the patients, assist doctors in the ICUs, emergency wards and operation theaters.

Bsc In Anaesthesia and operation theater technology

4 years including 1 years Internship

Main subject

  • 1st Year: Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Pathology, Biochemistry
  • 2nd Year: Microbiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Introduction to Anesthesia and Operation Theater Technology, Medicine relevant to Anesthesia and Operation Theater Technology
  • 3rd Year: Clinical Paper I, Applied Paper II, Advanced Paper III

Subsidiary subjects

  • 1st Year: English, Kannada/Malayalam, Health Care
  • 2nd Year: Sociology, Constitution, Environmental Science and Health
  • 3rd Year: Biostatistics, Ethics, Basic in Computer Application

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for admission a candidate shall have obtained

  • A candidate seeking admission shall have studied English as one of the principal subject during the tenure of the course and for those seeking admission shall have passed Two Year Pre-University or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as principal subjects of study.
  • or

  • Pre-Degree course from a recognized University considered as equivalent by RGUHS, (Two years after ten years of schooling) with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as principal subjects of study.
  • or

  • Any equivalent examination recognized by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore for the above purpose with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as principal subjects of study.
  • or

  • The vocational higher secondary education course conducted by Vocational Higher Secondary Education, Government of Kerala with five subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English in addition to vocational subjects conducted is considered equivalent to plus TWO examinations of Government of Karnataka Pre University Course.

Scope

Given the focus on the health care and the demand for Allied health professionals, career opportunities for Anesthesia and Operation theater technologist is expected to grow faster than the average of all other occupations.

  • CLINICALS : work as Anesthesia technologist (assisting during any anesthesia procedure ), operation theater technology (scrub nurse , circulating nurse , handling machineries) , critical and emergency care units
  • EDUCATIONAL : as Tutor and Lecturer

Note

  • The candidate shall have passed individually in each of the principal subjects.
  • Candidates who have completed diploma or vocational course through Correspondence shall not be eligible for any of the courses mentioned above
