Surgery Guest Lecture

The Department of Surgery, Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College, organized a Guest Lecture on the occasion of World Kidney Day 2026 on 19th March 2026. The programme commenced at 2:00 PM and aimed to enhance awareness regarding kidney health and to explore both conventional and integrative approaches in the management of renal diseases.

The event was attended by the Administrator, Rev. Fr. Donald Nilesh Crasta, Principal Dr. E. S. J. Prabhu Kiran, Vice Principal Dr. Vilma Meera Dsouza, Medical Superintendent Dr. Girish Navada, faculty members, staff, student participants of Final BHMS and MD Scholars

The event aimed at highlighting the significance of World Kidney Day as a global health awareness initiative established in 2006 by the International Society of Nephrology and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations. The theme for this year, “Kidney Health for All – Caring for People, Protecting the Planet,” was emphasized, underlining the importance of preventive strategies, early diagnosis, and equitable healthcare access.

The programme formally started with an invocation through a prayer song presented by Ms. Chethana and the team of Final BHMS students, invoking blessings for the successful conduct of the event. This was followed by the Welcome Address delivered by Dr. Fahmeedah B. K., Associate Professor, Department of Surgery, who also introduced the esteemed speakers for the day.

A Token of Appreciation was then presented to the guest speakers by the respected Administrator as a gesture of gratitude and respect.

The gathering was then addressed by the Administrator, Rev. Fr. Donald Nilesh Crasta, whose message inspired the audience and highlighted the importance of awareness and integrated healthcare approaches in managing kidney diseases.

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by the MC. The inaugral event concluded with the Institution Anthem

The academic sessions began with the first lecture by Dr. Ashwin S. P., Assistant Professor, Department of Nephrology, Father Muller Medical College, who spoke on “Recent Advances in Diagnostic Investigations of Kidney Diseases.” The session was highly informative and provided valuable insights into modern diagnostic techniques.

The second session  delivered by Dr. Adlin Reshma Gonsalves, Assistant Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, FMHMC, on “Integrative Approaches to Kidney Diseases – A Homoeopathic Case Experience.” The session effectively highlighted the role of homoeopathy in renal care through clinical experience.

The programme concluded with remarks summarizing the key takeaways from both sessions, emphasizing the integration of modern diagnostics with holistic approaches to improve patient outcomes. Dr Shreyank S Kotian, Asst Professor, Department of Surgery compered the session.

Overall, the programme was highly informative and served as a meaningful step towards spreading awareness about kidney health and improving clinical understanding among students and professionals.
