CME: Advanced Care: VAP Prevention and Strategies for Future Healthcare Providers

The Department of Critical Care Medicine at Father Muller Medical College organized a one-day CME titled “Advanced Care: VAP Prevention and Strategies for Future Healthcare Providers” on January 18, 2025. The event commenced with an inauguration ceremony, where Rev. Fr. Richard Aloysius Coelho, the Director, emphasized the importance of evidence-based practices and interprofessional collaboration in reducing ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). The program was attended by 125 delegates, including intensivists, physicians, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals, who engaged actively throughout the day. The inauguration commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Vijay Sundarsingh and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Archana Bhat.

The morning session featured lectures by experts on various aspects of VAP prevention, including infection control strategies, the role of physiotherapy, and the implementation of VAP bundles. Speakers delivered insightful presentations on the epidemiology, best practices, and interprofessional approaches to managing VAP. The sessions concluded with a post-test and participant feedback, ensuring an interactive and knowledge-enriching experience for all attendees.

The afternoon was dedicated to hands-on skill stations, where participants received practical training on hand hygiene, suctioning techniques, and VAP bundle implementation. The skill stations, led by faculty members from the Department of Critical Care Medicine, Emergency medicine, General Medicine and physiotherapy offered participants an opportunity to practice evidence-based methods in VAP prevention. The CME was highly appreciated for its interactive format and practical relevance, leaving participants with valuable insights and skills to improve patient care.
