Functional Urology CME and Oration

On 1st August 2025, the Department of Urology at Father Muller Medical College(FMMC), Mangalore in collaboration with Mangalore Urology Forum(MUF) hosted a Functional Urology CME and Oration at 5pm in the Conference Hall, FMMC.

Inauguration and Oration

The event began at 5 PM with a prayer, followed by a welcome from Dr. Nandakishore B. The CME was then formally inaugurated in the presence of dignitaries. On the dais were Rev. Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institution (FMCI), Dr. Antony Sylvan D’Souza, Dean of FMMC, Dr. Sanjay Sinha (the Chief guest and orator), Mangalore Urology Forum President Dr. Nandakishore B. and Secretary Dr. Suyog Shetty, and Dr. Abheesh Hegde the Organizing Secretary. A traditional lamp-lighting ceremony marked the official inauguration.An introduction of the orator Dr. Sanjay Sinha was given by Dr Shreyas NM, Assistant Professor, Dept of Urology. Dr. Sinha delivered his oration on the topic “LUTS IN YOUNG MALES”. Following his oration, he was honoured with a plaque and memento to recognize his contributions. The Director of the institution then delivered the presidential address adding how important it was to recognise and treat functional urology issues among patients who otherwise suffer from it silently without seeking help. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Abheesh Hegde, Associate Professor, Dept of Urology. This was followed by High Tea.

CME on Functional Urology

The Continuing Medical Education (CME) session commenced at 6:00 PM and was chaired by Dr. Mohan Chandra Suvarna, Dr. Sanman KN, Dr. Suraj Hegde, Dr. Roshan Shetty, Dr. Annappa Kamath.The first talk, titled "Persistent OAB post TURP. How to predict, what to do?", was delivered by Dr. Prajwal Ravinder. This was followed by another talk from Dr. Arun Chawla, who spoke on "Which surgery for my SUI patient".

The program continued with chairpersons: Dr. Prajwal, Dr. Altaf Khan, Dr. Sadanand Poojary, and Dr. Shreyas. Dr. Jay Khastgir (Adjunct Faculty FMMC) delivered his guest lecture virtually. He was introduced by Dr. Suyog Shetty, Associate Professor, Dept of Urology. Dr. Khastgirspoke on "Interstitial cystitis management". This lecture also included a Q&A session.

The CME concluded with a panel discussion moderated by Dr Suyog Shetty. The panelists included Dr. Sanjay Sinha, Dr. Jay Khastgir, Dr. Arun Chawla, Dr. Altaf Khan, and Dr. Prajwal. Discussions were interactive involving Post Graduates and staff from various colleges of Mangalore. It provided information on topics not routinely discussed. All the participating faculty for the various sessions were then handed over their certificates and saplings as a token of appreciation. There was healthy interaction between the attendees and the speakers.

The program was well appreciated by one and all and the participants were enriched with latest updates in functional urology. Dr. Prashant Adiga, Professor and HOD, Department of Urology was the organizing Chairman for the CME and Oration. Dr. Kishan Raj, Associate Professor, Dept of Urology was the Master of ceremony for both the Oration and CME. The residents in the department Dr. Sajal, Dr. Shilpee, Dr. Ashwin, Dr. Bharath, Dr. Adil, Dr. Nirmay and Office staff Wilma and Usha played a vital role in making the program a grand success.
