Recent Advances in Laser Dermatology

The Department of Dermatology, Father Muller Medical College organized a CME on Recent Advances in Laser Dermatology on 15th Feb 2026 at the AV Hall, Knowledge Centre. Dr. Michelle Fernandes, Professor and HOD of Dermatology and Organizing Chairman, welcomed the gathering.    The inaugural function was presided over by Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo.  Prof Dr Uddhav Patil, a renowed Plastic Surgeon from Kolhapur was the chief guest.

The highlight of the event was the virtual unveiling of the Lumenis Stellar M22 laser by Prof. Dr. Ganesh S. Pai, the guest of honour. This installation marks a historic milestone, as it is the first of its kind to be introduced in a private postgraduate medical college in the country. Mr. Navdeep Sharma, Country Manger- India & South Asia, provided a technical overview of the machine's capabilities.  The Stellar M22 by Lumenis is a globally recognised, versatile multi-application platform engineered to treat over 30 skin conditions with high precision and minimal downtime.

In his presidential address, the Director emphasized the evolving role of dermatologists, urging them to utilize advanced technology not merely for cosmetic improvements but to reduce the morbidity and immense psychological distress often associated with skin diseases. The other dignitaries on stage were Rev. Dr. Michael Santhumayor, Administrator FMMC and Dr. Antony Sylvan D'Souza, Dean, FMMC. Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Nagbhushan Hegde, Senior Resident and Organizing Secretary.

The scientific session featured expert lectures from Prof. Dr. Ganesh S. Pai on “Seven Colours of rainbow, Seven conditions treated with Fractional CO2 Laser & Stellar M22-ResurFX™” and and Dr. Uddhav Patil on "Miraculous results of Stellar M22 laser." The scientific deliberations were marked by an engaging and highly interactive academic session, with a large number of thought-provoking questions from the audience followed by insightful discussions that enriched the overall learning experience. The CME was attended by over 90 delegates, successfully integrating academic learning with clinical innovation.  It was compered by Dr Janice Reema Lewis and Dr Pavana Swamy.

Two-day hands-on workshop on Stellar M22 on 13th and 14th  February, 2026:

The Department of Dermatology, Father Muller Medical College, hosted an intensive 2-day hands-on workshop on the newly installed Stellar M22 by Lumenis. Dr. Uddhav Patil, a renowned Plastic Surgeon from Kolhapur, served as the resource person. He provided extensive training to faculty and residents on the fundamentals of Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technologies, conducting demonstrations on pigmentary disorders, vascular lesions, scar management, and facial rejuvenation. Dr Monisha Aravind, Aesthetic Chief Dermatologist, Armoraa Skin Hair Laser Clinic, Chennai also participated in the workshop. Mr. Navdeep Sharma, Country Manger- India & South Asia and Mr Jackson P, Service engineer from Lumenis were present for this event.
