Contemporary Breast Imaging – Updates & Practices: CME

The Department of Radiology, Father Muller Medical College Hospital, organised its BISI (Breast Imaging Society of India) endorsed CME titled “Contemporary Breast Imaging – Updates & Practices” on 30th and 31st May 2026. The CME was inaugurated in the DM Hall at 4:00 pm in the presence of 145 delegates from various hospitals across India, faculties and students from the Radiology Club of FMMC. Hologic, Barco & One Simulation were the trade partners for the two-day CME & Workshop.

The event was presided by our Guest of Honour, Dr. Suresh Rao, Professor – Mangalore Institute of Oncology, Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director – FMMCH, Dr. Antony Sylvan D’Souza, Dean – FMMC, Rev. Fr. George Jeevan Sequeira - Administrator, FMMCH, Dr. Janaki P Dharmarajan, Joint Secretary - BISI, Dr. Ram Shenoy Basti – Organizing Chairman, Professor & HOD, Dept. of Radiology FMMC, Dr. Soujanya Mynalli – Organizing Secretary, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Radiology FMMC.

The programme began with an invocation song, followed by welcome address by Dr. Ram Shenoy Basti. The traditional lighting of the lamp was done by the dignitaries followed by the Chief Guest’s address by Dr. Suresh Rao who highlighted that Breast Imaging is no longer a diagnostic subspecialty, but a frontline of cancer detection. Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo gave the presidential address promising full support on further developing oncology as well as encouraging such academic meets.

Day 1 of the CME featured talks from various distinguished speakers Dr. Gomathy Subramaniam, Dr. Vidya Upadhyaya, Dr. Sudhakar Sampangi, Dr. Soujanya Mynalli & Dr. Palak Popat. Followed by a Multidisciplinary Panel Discussion led by Dr. Janaki P Dhramarajan as the moderator and Dr. Shika Jayasheelan, Dr. Maraim Anjum Ifthikar, Dr. Soujanya Mynalli, Dr. Sudhakar Sampangi, Dr. M Dinesh, Dr. Vinay Kumar J Rajendra & Dr. Rachan Shetty as the the panellists representing various esteemed institutions in Mangalore.

The event was emceed by Mr. Rushil H, II MBBS (Batch 2024) and the logistics of the CME were handled by the Radiology Club and Ms Jyothi Pinto – Radiology Secretary.  All the dignitaries & speakers were felicitated with a plant sapling and a momento. Dr. Soujanya Mynalli proposed the Vote of Thanks. The programme concluded with the Institutional Anthem followed by dinner.

Day 2 of the CME featured Workstations on Breast Imaging held simultaneously at AV Hall & Asha Kiran – OPD Block, FMMC from 9:00 am to 4:00pm on 31st May 2026. The delegates were divided into two batches for the ease of the Workshop. The hands-on training models for the Workstations was created by our trade partners, Hologic, Barco & One Simulation.

The Workstations in the AV Hall included Contrast enhanced Mammography by Dr. Janaki P Dhramarajan, Digital Breast Tomosynthesis by Dr. Soujanya Mynalli & MRI station by Dr. Palak Popat. The morning workshops concluded with a scrumptious lunch in the Food Court.

The Workstations in Asha Kiran featured Sterotactic biopsy by Dr. Rupa Ananthasivan, USG Guided Vaccum Assisted Breast Biopsy by Dr. Vidhya Upadhyaya & USG Guided Miscellaneous Procedures by Dr. Sudhakar Sampangi on simulator models, chicken breast. The afternoon workshops were followed by high tea and a fun quizzing session by Dr. Zeena, Senior Resident, Dept. of Radiology. The winners of the quiz were awarded with exciting cash prizes.

Dr. Anston Vernon Braggs, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Radiology was instrumental for the seamless flow and management of the workshops. The logistics of the workshop were handled by UG Volunteers of RadWise –The Radiology Club and Ms Jyothi Pinto – Radiology Secretary. The two-day CME proved to be successful with exceptional feedback by the delegates who were interested in more such workshops in the near future.

The CME concluded with the Closing Ceremony at AV Hall by Dr.Zeena with the felicitation of the trade partners, sponsors, audio-visual operators & volunteers followed by the National Anthem.
