The Department of Ophthalmology, Father Muller Medical College successfully conducted the “Oculoplasty Intercollegiate Undergraduate Quiz Competition 2026” on May 28, 2026, at the AV Hall of the institution from 10am-12 pm. The academic event witnessed enthusiastic participation from undergraduate medical students, with 10 teams representing various medical colleges across Mangaluru, Sulliya and Shivamogga taking part in the competition.
The quiz competition was organized as a prelude to the upcoming CME “Oculoplasty 3600- From Blocks to Botox,” scheduled to be held on June 7, 2026. The programme aimed to kindle interest in the subspecialty of oculoplasty and encourage academic interaction among undergraduate students.
The event began with a welcome address, following which the participants were introduced to the format of the competition. A preliminary QR code–based MCQ round was conducted to shortlist teams for the finals.
The final rounds comprised image-based clinical questions, Jeopardy, crossword, catch the clues, lightening round, and case-based discussions related to oculoplasty. The quiz was conducted very efficiently by Quiz Master Dr. Madhurima Nayak, who engaged both participants and audience with an interactive and academically enriching session.
The winners of the competition were Mr Samarth Raghavendran and Mr Veekshath P Shetty from AJ Institute of Medical College, while the runner-up position was secured by Mr Ashirbad Ota and Mr Vaibhav Prasad Gowda from KMC Manipal.
Rev. Dr. Michael Santhumayor, Administrator of Father Muller Medical College distributed trophies and certificates to the winning teams.
The event was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Sarita R. J. Lobo, Professor and Head, Department of Ophthalmology. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Dilon Denis Noronha, Assistant Professor, department of ophthalmology along with Dr Madhurima Nayak and postgraduate students of the department.
The Department of Ophthalmology expressed gratitude to the management, participating colleges, faculty members, sponsors, and organizing committee for their support in making the event a grand success.
