Father Muller's gets a new College and Dean

The Father MullerrnCharitable Institutions has been a pioneer in the field of nursing, medical andrnallied health sciences education in the Dakshina Kannada District. In its 140thrnyear (1880-2020) the FMCI has constituted a separate unit i.e., Father MullerrnCollege of Allied Health Sciences (FMCOAHS) on June 1, 2020. In a modest yetrnaugust gathering held in the Hospital Conference Hall with all the necessaryrnpandemic protocols in place, the curtains were raised for a new beginning of arnnew era in academia.

The Father MullerrnCollege of Allied Health Sciences was born out of the Father Muller MedicalrnCollege (FMMC) as a need to have a separate constituent college as per thernguidelines of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS),rnBengaluru.

In his welcomernaddress, Dr Jayaprakash Alva expressed his thoughts on how the allied healthrnsubjects began under FMMC and the challenges they faced to bring in the newrncurriculum. He congratulated the new college being set up and the first Dean ofrnFMCOAHS and wished him success in all the endeavours of the college.

Dr Antony SylvanrnD'Souza expressed his sincere thanks to the Management in finding him worthyrnfor the coveted post and promised to upkeep the values of the Mullerian familyrnand also work meticulously towards the development of the new college. Hernexpressed his gratitude to His Lordship Rev. Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop ofrnMangalore and President of FMCI, the Vice president FMCI, General Body Membersrnfor placing their confidence in him. He thanked the faculty for their untiringrnefforts in bringing the college into this fore.

The air of renewalrncharged the proceedings as Prof. Dr Antony Sylvan D'Souza, was formallyrninstalled as the first dean of the Father Muller College of Allied HealthrnSciences in presence of the Director FMCI Rev. Fr Richard A. Coelho. The batonrnof charge was handed by Prof. Dr Jayaprakash Alva, Dean, FMMC.

Director FMCI Rev. FrrnRichard A. Coelho was pleased to inform that the auspiciousness of this dayrnwhen the Unlockdown 1.0 has been implemented, the Silver Jubilee celebrationsrnof the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) will be inauguratedrnby Sri Narendra Modi, PM of India via Video Conferencing in the noon, therninstallation of the chair of the first dean of the FMCOAHS and the coolingrnonset of the monsoon season. In his presidential address he prayed that therndean would encourage needed change in our community here on this campus and putrnforth the school to the status it deserves as a world-class institution servingrnthe entire county and this entire region. The rich diversity of ourrndifferences, distinctly converging in powerful harmonies, and the quest forrnjustice elevates our work for and with the people of this great Mangalore cityrnand beyond, those values of "heal and comfort" infuse the work of this medicalrninstitution with meaning.
