The Department of Hospital Administration at Father College of Allied Health Sciences organized a thought-provoking guest lecture titled Brushes against Stress: The Therapeutic Power of Art on 13 December 2025.
The session was led by Dr. Rashmi Kodikal, Professor at Graphic Era University. An accomplished academician and a skilled artist, Dr. Kodikal brings together research, creativity, and practical insight, making the session both grounded and engaging.
She opened the lecture by addressing a reality many students relate to: rising stress levels among Gen Z. She explained how chronic stress affects the brain and body, and why it has quietly become a multi-billion-dollar economic problem. What this really means is the loss of brain capital, now one of the most valuable assets in a brain-based economy.
The lecture moved through different therapeutic approaches, briefly tracing their origins and benefits, before focusing on art therapy. Dr. Kodikal explained how art can act as a powerful tool to process emotions, reduce stress, and improve cognitive functioning. She also touched upon the emerging concept of neurofinance, linking mental well-being with productivity and economic outcomes.
To make the session experiential, she guided students through a simple art-therapy activity. This hands-on exercise helped participants reflect on their own stress levels and reinforced the idea that creative hobbies can play a meaningful role in building a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.
The session was highly interactive, with students participating enthusiastically and engaging in thoughtful discussions. Many gained practical insights into stress management that extend beyond textbooks and into daily life.
The program began with a warm welcome by Ms. Saloni Dorothy Rodrigues and concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Roushell Delreen Renita Vas. Overall, the lecture empowered students with a deeper understanding of the therapeutic power of art and its growing relevance in managing stress in contemporary academic and professional environments.
