The Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) started De addiction center by name Vailankanni ward, in the year 1992, intending to provide the much-needed quality health care to individuals suffering from various substance use disorders. Since its inception, around 22 years back, the center has been providing unrelenting clinical services, follow up services and community outreach services to a sector of patients who are dependent on alcohol, tobacco, or any other substances. Though the center is located inside the Father Muller Medical College Campus in Kankanady, Mangalore, it caters to the felt needs of a larger feeding area and has patients coming from all over Karnataka and also from nieghbouring state of Kerala.
The Center runs a fully functional de addiction and rehabilitation programme with 30 beds which
includes five beds for female inpatients with substance use disorders, dedicated to treat patients with
various substance use and dependence.
The usual program consists of a 3 week treatment protocol,
where in patients with substance use disorders are offered a systematic and continual treatment
strategy, encompassing the three paradigms of de addiction therapy, namely, Detoxification,
motivation enhancement and relapse prevention. The treatment protocol followed is largely in accord
with the approved scientific guidelines for the same, but is also flexible to suit the needs of the
individual at a personal level.
