was organized for staff of Father Muller Hospital Thumbay on Friday 17th
February 2023 at 3.00pm in the Carmel Ward. Dr Aparna Baliga, Consultant Dept. of
OBG was the resource person.
World cancer day is observed annually on 4th
February. By addressing the gathering Dr Aparna spoke about the early detection
and prevention of Cancer. The day is a global uniting initiative led by the
Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). Cancer is considered to be the
second leading cause of death around the world. The day is meant to encourage
the detection, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer as soon as
possible. World Cancer Day aims to reduce multiple deaths that happen each year
by raising awareness about the disease and pressing governments and individuals
across the world to take action against it.
Early detection
can also play an important role in reducing cancer mortality. Primary
strategies include the Pap test for cervical cancer, mammography for
Breast cancer and colorectal cancer screening by occult blood testing,
sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy.
The theme for the year
2022-2024 is "Close the care Gap".
The gathering was welcomed and thanked by Ms.
Alisha Rodrigues, Dietician Father Muller Hospital Thumbay.
