International nurse's day was celebrated on 11th
May 2023 at 3:00pm at Father Muller Hospital Thumbay. The programme began with
a prayer song led by 1st year BSc Nursing Students of Father Muller
Nursing College, Thumbay followed by the welcome address by Sr. Dhanya Devasia,
Principal, Father Muller Nursing College Thumbay. She addressed nurses are
considered to be the central part of the healthcare system to provide high
quality and safe patient care. Focusing on a "brighter" future of nursing and
how the profession can help improve global health for all.
The Chief Guest of the programme was Mrs. Shanthi Vas,
Nursing Superintendent of FMMCH, Rev.Fr Richard Coelho - Director FMCI was the
President of the programme, Rev. Fr Sylvester Vincent Lobo Administrator
FMHT, Dr Kiran Shetty - Medical Superintendent of FMH-Thumbay, Sr Dhanya
Devasia, Principal Father Muller Nursing College Thumbay offered a floral tribute to the portrait of Florence
Nightingale and to our founder Fr. Augustus Muller.
Addressing
the gathering Mrs. Shanthi Vas, remembered the
birth anniversary of Florence
nightingale. She appreciated the selfless effort of nurses towards the humanity, hospital without nurse, is like a building
without foundation. Nurses are the backbone of the hospital and angels on earth
who work hard with complete dedication who takes care of the patient from
admission to till discharge. Without the presence of nurses no health care
setting can function and without their contribution no health team is complete.
We all nurses need to live the theme proposed by the ICN "Our Nurses. Our
Future", which recognizes the important of supporting, promoting, protecting,
respecting and valuing nurses for their and our future. At the end she saluted
the nurses for being heroes in serving the people.
On this occasion Best Bedside Nurse was awarded to Mrs Preethi Laveena Moras for her
dedicated service and competency, by Rev Fr. Richard A Coelho Director FMCI.
Rev.Fr
Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director, FMCI congratulated
the nurses and praised them by addressing them as angels of friendship. Nurses
are privileged to give service to suffering humanity and they give best care by
going out of their comfort zone. He also congratulated the 1st year
Bsc nursing students of Thumbay for their meaningful skit on various roles
played by the nurses in the health care settings.
A few fun games were conducted by Mrs Silviya Nisha Lobo,
Nursing Supervisor and the vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs Reshma
Fernandes, Staff Nurse. The whole programme was compered by Ms Sanora Rodrigues and Mr. Krithik - 1st
year BSc Nursing Student of Father Muller Nursing College Thumbay.
Programme concluded by singing institutional anthem.
Refreshments were served to all gathering.
