FOCUZ 24 - CME on Care of a bedridden patients

As part of the Silver Jubilee
Celebration, Department of Practice of Medicine organised a CME programme under
the series, FOCUZ 24 on the topic "Care of a bedridden patients" aimed to
provide healthcare professionals with comprehensive knowledge and practical
skills in managing patients who were confined to bed due to illness, injury or
disability.
Dr Anne Mary John, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical
Medicine and Rehabilitation, Kasturba medical College, Mangalore, was the
resource person.
Session began with a formal
inaugural programme. Dr M K Kamath, HOD, Dept of Practice of Medicine, welcomed
the gathering and introduced the resource person, Rev Fr Roshan Crasta, Administrator,
presented a memento to the resource person and expressed his sentiments and
good wishes, Dr Nandini JD, Assistant Professor from the department proposed
the vote of thanks.
The key highlights of the session
were
- Understanding the unique
challenges faced by bedridden patients, including pressure ulcers, muscle atrophy, respiratory complications and psychological distress.
- Preventive measures that are
needed to mitigate risks associated with immobility and importance of
repositioning maintenance Skin Hygiene and implementing proper nutrition
and hydration protocols.
- She also touched upon, ensuring
patient comfort and preserving their dignity were the central theme is
throughout the presentation.
- The post graduate scholars who
attended the program learned techniques for providing gentle and respectful
care, promoting autonomy whenever possible and fostering a supportive
environment for both patients and caregivers.

multidisciplinary collaboration in caring for bedridden patients, she
encouraged healthcare professionals to work closely with physiotherapist,
nutritionist, social workers and other specialist to address the complex needs
of the bedridden patients.
