A Workshop on training the trainers in OSCE was organized by Medical Education Technology Unit in association with the Department of Physiology & Department of Practice of Medicine for the AYUSH Faculty on the 16th & 17th of January 2025.
Dr Asha Kiran, Medical Educator from James Cook University, Queensland, Australia was the Resource Person.
29 AYUSH faculty registered as delegates from various colleges of south India of which 16 were Homoeopathic Faculty & 13 Ayurvedic Faculty.
A baseline survey was conducted on 15th of January for 21 sampled students of Final year BHMS on the 4 systems for which the training was planned. Faculty & Post Graduates were assigned with the checklist for assessing as Assessors for the survey.
registration with a brief introduction of the OSCE method of teaching followed by demonstration of “General History taking” session by the resource person on 16th January 2025. The Student of 1st & 2nd BHMS were the volunteers as patients & 3 students from Final BHMS were volunteers for getting trained by the tutor assigned in each station. 7 such stations functioned simultaneously with the delegates taking the role of tutor which was assigned to them priorly through a rooster. There was a debriefing session after the tutoring session.
There was a short Inaugural Program in the Afternoon session. Principal Dr ESJ Prabhu Kiran, welcomed the gathering & introduced the Resource person. Administrator Rev Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo gave the inaugural address in which he emphasized the importance of inculcating new methods of teaching & assessment for shaping competent & efficient health care professionals. He presented memento & certificate to the resource person. Dr Sheena K N, Coordinator of METU, proposed the vote of thanks.
This was followed by a demonstration. tutoring of the respiratory system & a briefing on the preparation of the study materials, Template & assessment checklist. Demonstration & tutoring of Cardiovascular system & Central Nervous system was also done. A mock test was conducted to the 21 sampled students of Final BHMS who underwent the baseline survey. The delegates were also assigned as assessors along with the assessors of Baseline survey so that they get an experience of assessing.
End of the day a short valedictory program was held at 4.30 pm. Administrator gave the concluding remarks & distributed the certificates to the delegates.
