As part of the observance of World Breastfeeding Week 2025, the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology organized a series of events on 2nd,3rd and 7th of August 2025 both on campus and in community health settings. The global theme for this year — “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems” — was the central focus of the activities

2nd AUGUST 2025
Event 1: CHART MAKING COMPETITION
A chart making competition was held in the morning session for the UG & PG students. The names of the prize winners are as follows
First prize : Bhumika and Vaishnavi (2nd BHMS Junior)
Second prize: Prajna and Deepthi (2nd BHMS Junior)
Event 2: GUEST LECTURE
The afternoon session featured a Guest lecture by Dr Sabitha Nayak, Vice Principal, Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, NITTE (Deemed to be University) on the theme “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems”,

Lecture by Dr Sabitha Nayak covered the general aspects of breastfeeding, its benefits, and a live demonstration of breastfeeding techniques.
Following this, Dr Meenu Maria Mathew, Assistant Professor, Department of OBG, delivered a talk on ‘Common disorders of the breast during lactation and their homoeopathic management’.
An open quiz for students was conducted. Prizes were awarded to those who answered correctly.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the MC. Ms. Merrin Paul, intern, compered the event smoothly.

BREASTFEEDING AWARENESS PROGRAMS AT CONCETTA HOSPITAL, KINNIGOLI
In continuation with programs of World Breastfeeding Week 2025 celebrations, the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology in collaboration with Concetta Hospital Management and Staff, organized a Breastfeeding Awareness Program.
Dignitaries Present:
· Chief Guest: Dr. Vilma Meera D’Souza – Vice Principal, Professor & Head, Department of OBG, Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College
· Guest of Honour: Dr. Venkatesh – Vice Dean, Father Muller Medical College
· Dr Sr Jeevitha, Chief Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, at Concetta Hospital, Kinnigoli.
· Sr Clara, Management staff at Concetta Hospital, Kinnigoli.
Dr Vilma Meera D’Souza, delivered an insightful session on the ‘Importance of breastfeeding’, emphasizing this year’s theme.
Final Year Junior BHMS students and a MD (Hom) Part I scholar performed a role play that conveyed messages on ‘Proper breastfeeding practices and ways to create supportive environment’.
Dr Ashni, MD (Hom) Part I scholar and Ms Aiman, intern of FMHMC conducted Interactive games for Mothers.
There were about 60 beneficiaries. The program concluded with prize distribution for the game winners.
7th AUGUST 2025-
BREASTFEEDING AWARENESS PROGRAM AT PRIMARY HEALTH CENTRE, AMBLAMOGARU
Continuing the outreach efforts, another breastfeeding awareness program was organized at the Primary Health Centre, Amblamogaru.
Awareness talk was delivered by Dr Adlin Gonsalves, Assistant Professor, Dept of OBG, highlighting the health advantages for both mother and infant, and the need for societal support to encourage breastfeeding.
Role play was enacted by students of Final Year Junior BHMS students and 2 MD (Hom) Part I scholars, focusing on ‘Practical solutions for common breastfeeding issues’.

There were about 30 beneficiaries. The program concluded with prize distribution to the winners by Dr Varsha, Chief Medical Officer, PHC Amblamogaru.
Across the three events, the Department of OBG engaged students, faculty, healthcare workers, and the community through competitions, lectures, role plays, and interactive games. The programs not only disseminated knowledge but also fostered active participation, ensuring that the message of breastfeeding’s importance was well understood and appreciated.
