The 4th BHMS students of Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College, Mangaluru, visited the Kalbhavi Cashew Factory, Baikampady, Mangaluru, on 20 February 2026 as part of their academic curriculum.
The entire batch was divided into two groups for better observation and interaction. The factory engineer, Mr. Leonal Samuel, briefed the students on the functioning of the cashew processing unit, workplace safety measures, and the protocols followed during emergency situations. He also explained the procedure for providing initial treatment and referring injured workers to nearby hospitals for further management.
The visit provided valuable industrial exposure to the students. They actively interacted with the factory team and raised queries regarding personal protective equipment (PPE), dust control measures, contact allergic dermatitis, chemical solvents used in processing, ESI benefits for employees, and the conduct of annual health check-ups. The industry representatives addressed all questions comprehensively, making the visit both informative and insightful.
