A Paediatric Health Screening Camp was conducted on 14.06.2025 at St. Rita Higher Primary School, Jeppu, Mangalore, by the Departments of Paediatrics and Community Medicine, Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital. The primary objective of this camp was to assess the general health and nutritional status of school-going children and refer those requiring further care to the FMHMC outpatient departments.
A total of 62 students from classes 4 to 7 were screened during the camp. The screening process included anthropometric assessments such as height, weight, and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), along with general examination covering vital signs, hygiene, and signs of nutritional or systemic health issues. Based on clinical findings, 34 students were referred to FMHMC OPDs for further evaluation and appropriate management.
During the camp, Dr. Sakshi and Dr. Ravi Raghul engaged in a brief discussion regarding the increasing prevalence of headaches and anxiety in school-going children, often linked to academic stress and poor lifestyle habits. They emphasized the importance of recognizing such symptoms early and guiding both children and parents toward healthy routines and emotional support systems. Their insights helped guide the team in offering basic counselling and awareness to teachers and students.
The camp was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Shreyank Kotian, Asst professor, Department of surgery (Team Leader) and included the participation of postgraduate doctors — Dr. Ravi Raghul, Dr. Sakshi, Dr. Chrisel J D’sa, Dr. Spurti Anil Bhosale, and Dr. Mane Dnyaneshwar. Interns - Mr. Akhil N Raj and Mr. Rekhil Kalasakkaran. The IV BHMS Junior students - Laura Anderse, Mantraj Tryphosa D, Phishaneires Phawa, Sincia Joy, Yuvashree S D, Clemson C C, Sarala Sanath Kumar, and P N Abhinav Kishan.
Apart from the medical assessments, the students were also engaged in recreational and interactive activities, which helped create a friendly and relaxed environment during the screening. The screening camp was a successful outreach initiative, emphasizing the importance of early detection, preventive care, and holistic child health.
