Training programme on Infection Prevention and Control

A Training programme on Infection Prevention and Control was organized by the IPC Department on 31.07.2025 at 10 am in the Father Muller Seminar Hall. 

Mrs Deena Andrade Infection Prevention and Control Nurse (IPCN) at Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Dr Kaavita Ramesh, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology, Father Muller Medical College & Hospital. Ms. Megha Kulal and Ms. Preema Monis, both serving as Infection Prevention and Control Nurses (IPCNs) at Father Muller Medical College Hospital were the resource persons for the training programme. 

The objective of the training programme was to enhance awareness about the critical importance of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) within both college and hospital settings, with a special focus on effective Biomedical Waste Management as an integral component of overall healthcare safety. 

The training programme covered key Infection Prevention and Control topics, including: Hand Hygiene Techniques, Disinfection and Sterilization Protocols, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Selection and Usage, Spill Management, Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI), Management of Needle Stick Injuries, Occupational Safety and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis, and Biomedical Waste Management and Segregation. 

To assess the effectiveness of the session, a pre-test and post-test were administered via Google Forms to evaluate participants' learning outcomes. The training programme was attended by Principal Dr. E.S.J. Prabhu Kiran, Vice Principal Dr. Vilma D’Souza, Medical Superintendent Dr. Girish Navada, Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Deepa Pais, members of the Hospital Infection Control Committee, Department in-charges, Hospital staff, Durga agency personnel as well as representatives from the College of Pharmacy and Inspire Academy. 

The Training programme concluded at 11.15am.
