The Department of Surgery organized a Workshop on “Trauma Management – I” (Lecture & Demonstration) as a part of the Competency-Based Dynamic Curriculum (CBDC) for II BHMS Senior and Junior students on 06.06.2025 (Friday) from 8:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Father Muller Auditorium, FMHMC.
The objective of the session was to introduce students to the fundamentals of trauma care through a mix of theoretical knowledge and hands-on demonstration.
Mr. Ashwin Bromeo J, Professor, Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, Father Muller College of Nursing was the resource person of the session.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. K John Paul, Head of the Department of Surgery, who introduced the topic and the esteemed resource person, Mr. Ashwin Bromeo J. This was followed by a floral welcome by Dr Vilma Meera Dsouza, Vice Principal, FMHMC, who presented a bouquet to the speaker as a token of appreciation.
Prof. Ashwin Bromeo conducted an engaging and informative session focusing on the Triage system and the ABCDE approach to trauma management. He elaborated on how timely and systematic assessment of trauma cases can significantly improve patient outcomes. The speaker also demonstrated key trauma management techniques using mannequins, an AMBU bag, and other emergency care tools, making the session highly practical and relatable for the students.
The interactive nature of the workshop encouraged students to actively participate and clarify their doubts. The live demonstrations helped bridge the gap between theory and practice, leaving a lasting impact on the attendees.
Dr Shreyank Kotian, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Surgery summarised the workshop and gave the concluding remarks.
The session ended with the presentation of a token of appreciation by Dr. Famheedha Binthi Khalid, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Surgery, as a gesture of gratitude on behalf of the department.
