Gunvatta Yatra – Awareness Program on NABL M(EL)T Program

The Gunvatta Yatra – Awareness Program on NABL M(EL)T Program was held on 9 August 2025 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the AV Hall, Knowledge Centre, Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences (FMCOAHS), Mangalore. The event was organized by FMCOAHS in association with the Karnataka Allied and Healthcare Professionals Association (KAHPA), the Quality Council of India, and NABL.

The program was graced by the presence of Dr. Hilda D’Souza, Principal, FMCOAHS, and Prof. Rajesh Shenoy, President, Karnataka Association of Health Professions and Allied Health Professionals (KAHPA), as special guests. The resource faculty for the event included Mr. Krishnaraj, Project Manager, Quality Council of India, and Mr. Santosh, Coordinator, NABL.

The inaugural session began with a warm welcome address, followed by the introduction of the dignitaries, resource persons, and participants.

In the technical sessions, Mr. Krishnaraj provided an in-depth overview of the NABL M(EL)T program, underlining the importance of standardized laboratory practices and the role of accreditation in ensuring trust and accuracy in diagnostics. Mr. Santosh complemented the session by sharing practical insights into the application and implementation process for laboratories, addressing common challenges and suggesting viable solutions.

The Gunvatta Yatra is a nationwide initiative aimed at creating awareness about the significance of quality in laboratories and the benefits of accreditation under the NABL M(EL)T program. This session familiarized participants with the processes, standards, and requirements for laboratory accreditation, while emphasizing the enhancement of quality and reliability in medical testing.

The event saw active participation from faculty, students, and laboratory professionals from various institutions and laboratories across Dakshina Kannada district. Engaging interactions with the speakers allowed participants to clarify doubts related to accreditation processes and quality management systems. The program succeeded in motivating laboratories and academic institutions to adopt best practices for quality improvement.

In the closing remarks, Dr. Hilda D’Souza and Prof. Rajesh Shenoy highlighted the critical role of quality standards in healthcare diagnostics and encouraged all institutions to work towards achieving NABL accreditation.

The program was coordinated by Dr. Omkareshwar Patil, Assistant Professor of Pathology, and Ms. Chaithanya, Lecturer of Biochemistry.
