The Department of Cardiac Care Technology, Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences (FMCOAHS), in association with the Department of Cardiology, Father Muller Medical College (FMMC) organized a one-day symposium titled “Decode the Beat – A Symposium on Cardiac Interpretation” on 26th August 2025 at the AV Hall, Father Muller Knowledge Centre. The Organizing Chairman for the symposium was Dr Jostol Pinto, Associate Professor of Cardiology & Course Coordinator of the BSc Cardiac Care Technology Course. The Organizing Secretaries were Ms Gopikalakshmi, Lecturer and Echocardiographer, and Mrs Sudina Raj, Tutor and Perfusionist.
The inauguration was presided over by Rev. Fr. Dr. Michael Santhumayor, Administrator, FMMC & FMCOAHS, and the programme commenced with the welcome address by Dr. Jostol Pinto. The Chief Guest, Dr. H. Prabhakar, Chief Interventional Cardiologist, FMMC shared his insights on the importance of cardiac interpretation in clinical practice and continued learning. Dr Hilda Dsouza, Principal, FMCOAHS and Dr Pradeep Pereira, HOD, Department of Cardiology were also present for the inaugural. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs. Sudina Raj.
The symposium witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of FMCOAHS as well as students from other institutions in and around Mangaluru.
The academic sessions were as follows:
• Morning Session: Basics of ECG Interpretation by Dr. Jostol Pinto
• Afternoon Session: Basics of Echocardiography by Dr. Ashok Jain
In addition, competitions were organized to encourage student participation and innovation. The Poster Presentation and Working Model Presentation competitions held in the morning showcased the creativity and knowledge of the Cardiac Care Technology students. The students returned with hearts full of knowlegde from the Knowledge Centre here at FMMC.
