DR. VENKAT RAO MEMORIAL POST GRADUATE QUIZ 2025

The Department of General Surgery, Father Muller Medical College, conducted Dr. Venkat Rao Memorial Postgraduate Quiz 2025 for postgraduate students in General Surgery on 18.10.2025 from10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Knowledge Centre hall. Students from Medical Colleges in and around Mangalore consisting of 13 teams of two members each have participated in the academic event.
The inaugural programme began with prayer song by Dr. Alan, Junior Resident and team. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Rakesh Rai A, Professor and Head of the department of General Surgery. In his welcome speech, he remembered the great services rendered by Dr. Venkat Rao at Father Muller Hospital on who’s remembrance annually the quiz program is conducted.
The lamp lighting was done by the dignitaries on the dais.
The Chief Guest of the function, Dr. Harishchandra B commended the Dr. Venkat Rao Memorial PG Quiz as a fitting tribute to a visionary educator, highlighting its role in promoting clinical knowledge, critical thinking, and camaraderie among postgraduate students. They emphasized Dr. Rao’s lasting impact on medical education and applauded the organizers for continuing his legacy through this enriching academic platform.
The Administrator Rev. Fr. Dr. Michael Santhumayor, in his Presidential address congratulated the department of General Surgery for conducting the quiz in memory of the surgeon par excellence and a General Surgeon in true sense Late Dr. Venkat Rao and he wished good luck to the participants. He stressed the importance of participating the events like this to enhance the knowledge and the skills and the significance of empathy and doctors touch.
Dr. Vinod Kumar B, Associate Professor Department of General Surgery proposed the vote of thanks. Rev. Fr. Dr. Michael Santhumayor, Administrator, Father Muller Medical College, Dr. Antony Sylvian Dsouza Dean FMMC, were present during the inaugural function. The programme was compeered by Dr. N B Ankita, and Dr. Niveda, Senior Residents.
Dr. SheldonGeorge Mathias Professor of Surgery was the quiz master. The quiz consisted of a preliminary selection round followed by a final quiz of 6 rounds with the top 5 teams. The final quiz consisted of six rounds which included Big shots – Legends and Pioneers, What’s in a name? Etymology, Know your gear- Instruments, Dumb triads, Play house – Diagnose the condition and Vision 15/15.
The first prize was won by Dr. Divyanshu and Dr. Arun from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, The Second prize was won by Dr.Abhilash and Dr.Venkatesh from Srinivas Medical College, Mukka and Third prize was won by Dr.Sindhu M and Dr. Yashna Shetty, Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore. The prize distribution was done by the Senior Faculty members of the department. All the staff members and postgraduates from the department of surgery attended the programme. Total 100 members participated in the programme. It was well appreciated by one and all.
