Internship Research Orientation Programme : 2026

The Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences (FMCOAHS) organized an Internship Research Orientation Programme from 21st to 24th January 2026 with the objective of empowering interns with essential knowledge and skills required for preparing research proposals during their internship period.

The programme was conducted as a series of structured academic sessions focusing on various components of research methodology, proposal writing, and ethical considerations. All interns of the 2026 batch were mandated to attend the programme.

Objectives of the Programme

The primary objectives of the orientation programme were to:

          Assist interns in identifying and developing research problems

          Provide guidance on literature search and review writing

          Familiarize interns with research designs, sampling techniques, and methodology

          Create awareness about ethical issues in research

          Guide interns on synopsis writing and protocol submission procedures

Programme Schedule and Session Highlights

Day 1 – 21st January 2026

The programme commenced at 1.45 PM at Rajath Bhavan, Third Floor, Father Muller College of Nursing.

          The first session on “Identifying and Developing a Research Problem” was handled by Dr. Shivashankara A.R., who explained how to identify feasible, relevant, and researchable problems from clinical and academic settings. This interactive session  enabled the participants to understand how varied research problems and titles can emerge from the same theme, thereby enhancing their analytical and critical thinking skills.

A session on “Literature Search” was delivered by Dr. Agnes Moira D’Souza, who elaborated on various databases, keywords, search strategies, and referencing tools essential for conducting a systematic literature review.

On day 2, Dr. Shivashankara A.R. conducted a session on “Framing the Title, Aim, and Objectives”, emphasizing clarity, specificity, and alignment between research components. The second session of the day on “Study Designs” was again handled by Dr. Shivashankara A.R., who explained different quantitative and qualitative study designs with suitable examples. This was followed by a session on “Writing the Methods Section” by Dr. Sonia Edaline D’Souza, where interns were guided on describing study setting, population, tools, data collection procedure, and statistical analysis clearly and systematically.

  The third day sessions started with a talk on  “Sampling Methods and Sample Size” by Mrs Praseena , explaining probability and non-probability sampling techniques in a simple and practical manner. Dr. Pauline Anand delivered a session on “Writing Introduction and Review of Literature”, highlighting structure, logical flow, and citation practices. Then , Dr. Agnes Moira D’Souza conducted an informative session on “Referencing”, emphasizing the importance of plagiarism-free writing and proper citation styles.

The final day of the programme started with the  first session on “Ethical Issues in Research” was delivered by Dr. Shivashankara A.R., where ethical principles, informed consent, confidentiality, and the role of Institutional Ethics Committee were discussed in detail. The concluding session was jointly handled by Dr. Shivashankara A.R. and Dr. Sonia Edaline D’Souza. The session concluded with a comprehensive revision of all the sessions conducted over the previous days, reinforcing key concepts of research methodology and clarifying doubts raised by the participants. 

A total of 70 interns attended the sessions and feedback was taken from the participants.

All the sessions were conducted under the leadership of the Principal as Chairperson of Research Committee, and Dr Sonia Edaline Dsouza as the convener with able support from members of the research committee.
