International Day of the Midwife

On May 5, 2026, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Father Muller College of Nursing, in collaboration with Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Kankanady, celebrated International Day of the Midwife on the theme “One Million More Midwives.” As part of an innovative initiative titled “Maatr Vidya,” conceptualized by Rev. Sr Dr Dhanya Devasia, three televisions were installed in the maternity and Labour wards to facilitate patient education through educational videos. The televisions were solemnly blessed and inaugurated by the Director, Rev. Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, together with Rev. Fr George Jeevan Sequeira, Administrator of Father Muller Medical College Hospital. The programme also featured a Panel Discussion on “Challenges Faced by Midwives,” and a total of 275 students from III GNM, VII Semester B.Sc. Nursing, I P.B.B.Sc. Nursing, and I M.Sc. Nursing benefitted from the session.
