CURRICULM COMMITTEE

Overview

The Curriculum Committee under the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) plans academic programs specifically designed and developed to fulfil the vision and mission of the institution and at the same time taking in to account the changing needs of various stake holders namely students, health care industry and the society, adhering to regulatory requirements of Indian Nursing Council and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.

Objective of the committee

  1. To review all aspects of the curriculum on a regular basis.
  2. To ensure that the curriculum design meets the goals and objectives of the course.
  3. To facilitate the teaching-learning process through innovative teaching methods.
  4. To ensure that the curriculum is consistent with the Indian Nursing Council guidelines and standards.

Functions of the commitee

  • Plan curricular and co-curricular activities for a particular academic year through pre-academic meetings and timely evaluation of the program.
  • Plan a calendar of events for all the courses which includes academic schedule of both theory and practical.
  • Ensure the utilization of instructional resources of the institution.
  • Plan add-on and value-added courses well in advance by the curriculum committee.
  • Obtain feedback from various sources such as students, alumni, stakeholders, and professionals.
  • Review the feedback and make recommendations for revision of the curriculum for improving the academic standards.

The following are the various means through which it executes the curriculum.

  1. IQAC: The overall quality enhancing body for the institution which deals with policy making and monitoring the activities of various committees, departments, and cells of the institution.
  2. Curriculum Committee meeting: This committee plans and decides curricular and co-curricular activities for a particular academic year through pre-academic meetings and timely evaluation of the program.
  3. Academic Calendar: A well-planned academic calendar considering the RGUHS calendar of events is prepared, which includes the academic schedule of both theory and practical of all batches with details of various activities and information.
  4. Well planned course plan and unit plan: It is prepared at the beginning of each academic year at the departmental level and submitted to the curriculum committee. This includes course objectives, topics, teaching strategies, and reference books.
  5. Staff and class coordinators meetings: Meetings are held once a month. Initial meetings of coordinators of respective batches discuss their plans for the academic year and schedule both theory and practical sessions to avoid overlapping of students in clinical areas. Faculty express their concerns and issues regarding curricular and co-curricular activities in the staff meeting.
  6. Add-on and Value-added Course: Courses are planned well in advance during curriculum committee meetings and discussed in the staff meeting.
  7. ICT enabled classrooms: Classrooms are equipped with smart boards and LMS with internet connections to support, enhance, and optimize the delivery of information.
  8. Formative & summative assessment: Includes various assessment strategies planned throughout the academic year such as OSCE, Exit exams, Mop-up tests, and other tools to identify students' understanding of the learning process.
  9. Enrichment of curriculum: Need-based student enrichment programs such as add-on programs, value-instilling programs, ENLS courses, conferences, workshops, panel discussions, simulations, guest lectures, and seminars featuring experts from various fields.
  10. Feedback: The institution has an online feedback system (Pacifyca) for students and faculty. Manual feedback is also collected from stakeholders such as employers, alumni, and professionals. Actions related to queries/remarks are addressed promptly.

FMCON has a systematic process for design, development and validation of curricular activities. Before starting a new academic year, a preliminary meeting is held by to access the feasibility of the programme which is followed by planning of the academic calendar.
