The Department of Medical Surgical Nursing successfully conducted a conference on Oncology Insights on 11th April 2025 at the Decennial Memorial Hall, Father Muller Charitable Institutions, exclusively for the students of Father Muller School and College of Nursing, Mangalore.

The inaugural ceremony commenced at 9:30 AM with a prayer song performed by students of II Year GNM. The event was compered by Ms. Merlyn Priya Moras and Ms. Jubal, postgraduate students of Medical Surgical Nursing. Mr. Ashwin Bromeo J., Professor in the Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, extended a warm welcome to the gathering, followed by the traditional lamp lighting. Sr Dhanya Devasia, Principal of Father Muller College of Nursing, delivered an insightful address, highlighting the significance of the conference and emphasizing the theme for World Cancer Day 2025, "United by Unique." The Director of FMCI, Rev. Father Richard Aloysius Coelho, delivered the presidential address, underscoring the importance of compassionate care for patients battling cancer. The formal proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks.

The first speaker of the day, Dr. Hemanth Kumar, Medical Oncologist at Mangalore Institute of Oncology, provided an in-depth analysis of cancer biology and prevention strategies. Following this, Dr. Rohan Chandra Gatty, Surgical Oncologist, Father Muller Medical College Hospital elaborated on cutting-edge cancer treatments and therapies. Dr. Soujanya Mynalli Braggs, Breast Imaging and Intervention Specialist, FMMCH discussed the role of medical imaging in cancer diagnosis and treatment. A skill-based session was conducted by Ms. Denitha T., Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, alongside Ms. Presilla Dsouza, In-Charge at Sacred Heart, FMMCH, on PICC Line Insertion and Dressing. Additionally, Ms. Kaini Cicilia, Professor in the Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, guided students through holistic care and palliative approaches in oncology.

Students were recognized for their participation in a poster competition centered on the theme "United by Unique." Certificates and prizes were awarded to commend their efforts. The conference concluded at 4:20 PM, leaving students with invaluable insights into oncology care, advancements, and multidisciplinary approaches in the field.
