Nov 17, 2025

The Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing of Father Muller College of Nursing organized a vibrant School Health Program on November 11, 2025, at Netaji S Bose, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, Primary School, Deralakatte. The session began at 10:00 a.m. with the enthusiastic participation of Second-year B.Sc. Nursing and First-year M.Sc. Nursing students, who collaborated to educate young learners about oral health and its prevention.

The program aimed to promote healthy habits and behaviours among children through fun and interactive methods. The highlight of the event was a creative role play that beautifully explained topics such as the importance of oral hygiene, causes and risk factors of dental problems, healthy versus unhealthy food choices, steps of proper oral care, and preventive measures against complications.

To make learning more engaging, the students used audio-visual aids like PowerPoint presentations and colourful charts. The health education session was conducted in Kannada, ensuring that every child could easily understand and connect with the message.

The atmosphere was lively and filled with joy as the nursing students organized games, songs, and dances that kept the school children entertained while reinforcing lessons on oral health. Smiles brightened even more when each child received a pencil kit and refreshments at the end of the program.

Ms. Triveni compered the event with great enthusiasm, keeping the audience engaged throughout. The Headmistress and teachers of the school attended the program and appreciated the efforts of the department and students for conducting such an impactful session.

A total of 90 students benefited from this educational and entertaining initiative. The program concluded at 11:30 a.m., leaving the children more aware, motivated, and inspired to take care of their oral health.

This initiative truly reflected the spirit of service, learning, and community engagement, showcasing how small steps in education can lead to brighter, healthier smiles
