The Department of Community Health Nursing, Father Muller College of Nursing, in collaboration with the Anti-Drug Committee of Srinivas Institute of Technology, organised a Health Awareness Programme on 26/05/2026 at the Seminar Hall of Srinivas Institute of Technology, Valachil, Mangalore, on the topic “Choose Life, Not Smoke: Combating Tobacco Dependence” in observance of World No Tobacco Day. Rev. Sr. Dhanya Devasia, Principal, Father Muller College of Nursing; Dr Ananth Kulkarni, Student Welfare Officer; Prof. Rakesh Mallya, NSS Coordinator; and Dr Lokesh, HOD of Marine Engineering, graced the occasion.
The programme commenced with an invocation prayer followed by the presidential address by Rev. Sr. Dr Dhanya Devasia, who highlighted the harmful effects of tobacco use and the need for awareness among youth. V Semester B.Sc. Nursing students actively participated through a role play on tobacco awareness. Dance performances and interactive games were also conducted to reinforce the health messages in an engaging manner.
A total of 80 participants attended the programme. The event was coordinated by Ms Deepika N. C., Subject Coordinator, and Dr Shycil Mathew, Professor, Department of Community Health Nursing. The programme received positive feedback and effectively promoted awareness of tobacco prevention and healthy lifestyle practices.
