A one-day general health check-up camp and cancer screening were organized at INFANT JESUS SHRINE, BIKARNAKATTE, MANGALORE, on Sunday, 31-10-2024, between 9.30 am and 2.00 pm. St. Teresa of Avila Community (OCDS) Bikarnakatte in association with Father Muller Medical College Hospital Mangalore jointly arranged a free cancer screening and general health check-up camp.
Our camp team comprised doctors from departments of General Medicine, General Surgery, Special Oncology, OBG, Radiation Oncology, Ophthalmology, and Speech & Hearing along with hospital laboratory and nursing personnel.
A total of 300 people attended the camp to use the many services available. A total of 10 people benefited from speech and hearing services (8 audiology patients and 2 Speech disorder patients). Speech and hearing professionals in attendance were Ms. Viona Dsouza (Audiologist Grade 1), and Ms. Frannie Lamita Fernandes (Speech-language pathologist Grade I). Each patient received a case history, otoscopic assessment, screening audiometry, speech and language evaluation, and counselling. Those who did not pass the hearing screening or were suspected to have any speech-language disorders received referrals via a camp referral card and were counselled to administer detailed diagnostic testing at Father Muller Medical Hospital at concessional rates.
