The Faculty Development Programme (FDP) titled “Essential Teaching–Learning and Assessment Skills” was conducted on 2nd and 3rd February 2026 at the Seminar Hall, FMC. The programme aimed to enhance the teaching competencies, assessment practices, and mentoring skills of faculty members.
The programme began with the inauguration where Director Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo addressed all the faculty and emphasized the importance of continuous faculty development in maintaining academic excellence.
Day 1 commenced with a pre-test followed by an ice-breaking and group dynamics session conducted by Dr. Shivashankara AR, which helped create an interactive learning environment. Subsequent sessions covered learning domains and principles of adult learning (Dr. Chandini), competencies and learning objectives (Dr. Archana Bhat), and teaching– learning methods for large group teaching (Dr. Smitha Bhat).
The afternoon sessions included small group teaching by Dr. Nagesh KR, teaching clinical skills by Dr. Savitha Lasrado, effective use of media in teaching–learning by Dr. Maitreyee DS, and teaching and assessment of attitude, ethics, and communication by Dr. Mangala S. The day concluded with active participation and discussion among faculty.
Day 2 began with a recap of Day 1. The sessions focused on assessment strategies including introduction to assessment (Dr. Chandralekha N), blueprinting and framing of essay and short answer questions (Dr. Reshma Kini), and self-directed learning (Dr. Shivashankara AR). Further sessions included framing MCQs (Dr. Mangala S), assessment of clinical skills (Dr. Savitha Lasrado), writing a lesson plan (Dr. Shivashankara AR), and mentoring skills (Dr. Mangala S).
The programme concluded with a post-test, feedback session, and formal closure. The FDP was well received by the participants and successfully met its objective of strengthening faculty teaching, assessment, and mentoring competencies. The programme was an initiative.
