Oct 30, 2024

The Fresher’s Day Celebration of the 3rd batch of B.Sc. Nursing 2024-25 was held on 30th October, at 2:30 PM at Father Muller Nursing College Thumbay. The program began with an invocation through dance. Ms. Leona, 1st-semester B.Sc. Nursing student, welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering. The formal inauguration of the program took place with the revealing of the theme “NOVALIE” by the chief guest, Rev. Fr. Faustine L. Lobo, Designate Director FMCI, along with the president of the program, Fr. Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director FMCI, Rev. Fr. Sylvester Vincent Lobo, Administrator of FMNCT, Dr. Sr. Judy SIC, Principal FMNCT, and other dignitaries.

The chief guest, Rev. Fr. Faustine L. Lobo in his address congratulated the fresher’s for choosing the nursing profession. He emphasized the importance of dreaming big and working hard to achieve one’s goals. He highlighted the legacy of this esteemed institution, which has been providing dedicated service in the field of health care for 144 years. He encouraged students to draw inspiration from the institution and reminded them that they are fortunate to be here. While the faculty can provide exceptional guidance and resources, the effort to learn and grow must come from the students themselves. As the saying goes, "You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink." He urged the students to engage actively with the knowledge shared and be open to learning. If they resist, they may miss out on invaluable experiences.

Fr. Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director of FMCI, in his presidential address spoke about the power of dreams, stating that a dream that doesn’t allow you to sleep must be fulfilled. He encouraged students to dream big and stay focused. He advised them, as future health workers, to show kindness to patients. He used the example of holding a glass of water for a long time to illustrate how carrying grudges or hatred can tire and hurt a person, both emotionally and physically. He stressed the importance of academics, research and emphasized the need for capable, qualified, and competent nurses. He concluded with the message not to grumble about duties and classes, as hard work will be rewarded.

The entertainment program and formal introduction of the newcomers followed. The program ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Aleena Sam Varghese. The formal event was compered by Ms. Sweedal Tauro and Mr. Sharoon Pinto, while the informal event was hosted by Mr. Riyon Shaun Corda and Ms. Merrysa Fernandes. The program concluded with the institutional anthem, followed by refreshments.
