The Student Nurses Association of FMNCT celebrated International Nurses Day on 12th May 2025 at 3:00 P.M. in Florence Nightingale Hall. With great enthusiasm, honoring the spirit of Florence Nightingale and recognize the invaluable contributions of nurses to global health care. There was active participation of faculty members, students, and distinguished guests. The program began with a warm welcome to our honored guests: Dr. Sr. Judy SIC, Principal; Mrs. Janet Sequeira, Vice Principal; and Dr. Edveena Philip Monis, SNA Advisor. Special guests, including Dr. Franzia Monis, Dr. Vengat Sachin, and Dr. Shaika Masaba, were also felicitated with floral tributes in appreciation of their presence. Faculty members and students gathered in unity, setting a respectful and vibrant tone for the day.
As part of the celebration, a series of competitions were organized to highlight the talents and creativity of the student nurses. The first among them was the Poem Writing Competition, which took place at noon in Lecture Hall 4. A total of 37 participants expressed their reflections on nursing and humanity through heartfelt verses. The competition was judged by Dr. Vengat Sachin and Dr. Franzia Monis.
At 1:20 PM, the Bottle Art Competition was held in Florence Nightingale Hall, where 14 participants creatively repurposed bottles into meaningful artistic pieces. The event was evaluated by Dr. Franzia Monis and Dr. Shaika Masaba.
The final competition of the day, the Speech Competition, commenced at 2:30 PM, also in Florence Nightingale Hall, featuring 8 dynamic speakers who shared insights on the topic “Our Nurses, Our Future: Caring for Nurses, Strengthens Economies”. This event was judged by Mrs. Jacindha Valder from the Department of Adult Health Nursing, Dr.Edveena Philip Monis from the Department of Community Health Nursing, and Mrs.Sylvia Nisha Lobo, ANS from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Following the competitions, a prize distribution ceremony was held to honor the winners of all three events. The winners of the competitions were as follows.

The programme began at 3:00 PM in Florence Nightingale Hall on the theme “Our Nurses, Our Future: Caring for Nurses, Strengthens Economies” with the active participation of both faculty members and students. It commenced with a soulful prayer song led by the 1st-year B.Sc. Nursing Students set a serene and respectful tone for the event. The session was compered by Ms. Leona, also from the 1st year. One of the most significant moments of the celebration was the honoring of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. This was marked by the lighting of the lamp and showering of flowers on her portrait, a symbolic tribute led by Dr. Sr. Judy SIC, Principal of FMNCT, along with all faculty members.
To formally welcome the guests and dignitaries, Mr. Rino K Mathew, a 2nd-year B.Sc. The nursing student delivered the welcome address, expressing gratitude for their presence. The enlightenment of the day was delivered by the Vice Principal, Mrs. Janet Sequeira, who also addressed the gathering with insightful and inspiring words. As a special tribute to the selfless service of nurses, the 1st-year students performed a mime show, beautifully portraying the compassion, resilience, and dedication inherent in the nursing profession
Another significant part of the celebration was the Felicitation of Former SNA Bearers from the Academic years 2022–2023 and 2023–2024. The bearers for 2022–2023— Ms.Nirmala D\'Souza, Ms. Jerlyn D\'Souza, Ms. Sandra Rose Maria, and Ms.Rincia Carlo—were acknowledged for their dedication. For the year 2023–2024, Ms.Brinta Ann Matthew, Ms. Aashel Preethika D’Souza, Mr.Renson D’Souza, Ms.Lina Joshi, Mr. Alphy Johnson, Ms.Michelle Benny, and Ms. Maria Babu were recognized for their service and commitment to the growth of the SNA.
Adding to the event\'s excitement, the overall championship trophy for the cultural, sports, and games events held in January 2025 was awarded to Team Phoenix, celebrating their spirit of participation, leadership, and teamwork. The team was invited to the stage and honored in front of an applauding audience. The winners of Rally competition were given the awards such as 1st years bagged 1st prize followed by 2nd years and 3rd years..
The Principal, Dr. Sr. Judy SIC, then addressed the gathering with an inspiring speech that emphasized the core values of the nursing profession—care, sacrifice, and service—and encouraged students to stay committed to their noble calling. She also put forward the importance of participation in the competition and its significance in the development of students. She addressed the speech where participants had read the circular given by the International Council of Nurses and expressed it in their speech. Her words served as a reminder of the importance of character, compassion, and excellence in healthcare.
To conclude the event, Ms. Joylyn Riya D’Silva, President of the Student Nurses Association and a 5th-semester student, delivered the vote of thanks, extending heartfelt gratitude to the guests, faculty, organizers, and students for their invaluable contributions and support in making the celebration a success.
The program ended with the singing of the Institutional Anthem, marking a dignified close to the event. Refreshments were then served—dignitaries were invited to the Conference Hall, and students were directed to the refreshment counter behind the main hall.
