Oct 10, 2025

To commemorate World Mental Health Day 2025, the Department of Mental Health Nursing of Father Muller Nursing College Thumbay, organized a radio talk in collaboration with St. Aloysius Radio Sarang, Mangalore. The radiotalk was recorded on 08-10-2025 and will be telecasted on 10-10-2025 at Radio Sarang 107.8 Fm. The program aimed to create awareness about the importance of mental well-being during crises and emergencies, in line with this year’s theme

“Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies.”

The radio talk was presented in the form of a dramatized role play, prepared and performed by the third-year B.Sc. Nursing students under the guidance of Mrs. Joyce Fernandes Assistant professor and Ms. Glenisha Pereira, Assistant Lecturer, Department of Mental Health Nursing.

The radio drama portrayed the mental health challenges faced by individuals during natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes. Through realistic dialogues and scenarios, it highlighted the psychological impact of loss, fear, and trauma, and demonstrated how community support, counselling, and timely access to mental health services can aid in recovery.

The presentation also shed light on the crucial role of nurses, social workers, and NGOs in providing psychological first aid, rehabilitation, and continuity of care during and after catastrophic events. It reinforced that mental health is as vital as physical health, and that early intervention helps prevent long-term complications such as anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress.

The program concluded with words of appreciation to the FMCI management, Principal, the faculty of the Department of Mental Health Nursing, and Radio Sarang for their valuable support in spreading mental health awareness to the community.

The initiative served as a creative and meaningful platform for students to promote mental health literacy, empathy, and resilience in times of crisis.
