The Society of Midwives India, in collaboration with Father Muller Nursing College Thumbay (a unit of Father Muller Charitable Institutions affiliated to RGUHS, Bengaluru), organized a Symposium on Essential Newborn Care, supported by Himalaya Baby Care.
The symposium commenced at 9:30 AM with a prayer service, followed by a warm welcome address by Dr. Reena Wilma Frank, Principal. A lamp-lighting ceremony marked the formal inauguration of the event.
Dr. Asha Bhat, Chief Guest, shared the objectives of Societies of Midwives India (SOMI). The President of the programme, Rev. Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, shared his enlightening words about essential newborn care and the rights of a child. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Silviya Nisha Lobo.
A total of 100 delegates, including faculty, students and staff nurses from various hospitals in and around Mangalore, actively took part in the symposium.
Eight scientific sessions were conducted by experts, covering key topics such as: midwife as a change agent in newborn care, thermal protection and early initiation of breastfeeding, essential care at birth – first hour of life, newborn resuscitation – golden minute, session by himalaya wellness company, recognising danger signs in newborns, KMC promoting bonding and growth, community based newborn care – role of a nurse
A pre- and post-test were administered for delegates to identify the effectiveness of symposium.
The valedictory session at 4:00 PM included the distribution of certificates to the delegates and received a warm response from the delegates. The programme concluded with the National Anthem.
