Father Muller Nursing College, Thumbay, successfully conducted a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Research Methodology: Capacity Building of Research Guides” on 31 December 2025 at 9:00 a.m.The programme was organized to improve the research knowledge and guiding skills of nursing faculty members.
The programme was invoked by Ms. Sylviya Nisha Lobo and Ms. Glenisha Pereira and was graced by the presence of Rev. Fr. Sylvester Vincent Lobo, Administrator; Dr. Reena Wilma Frank, Principal; and Dr. Ramesh Bhat, Head of Father Muller Research Center. The programme began with an inaugural session and keynote address by Dr. Ramesh Bhat, who explained the importance of research methodology in academic work.
This was followed by a session on Identifying a Research Topic by Dr. Shivashankara A. R, where he discussed simple and practical ways to select a research problem. Dr. Sandra Jyothi Saldanha conducted a session on Review of Literature, focusing on how to search and review research articles effectively. Dr. Sonia Karen Sequera explained Framing Research Problems, Aims, Objectives, and Hypothesis, helping participants understand the basics of research planning.
After the break, Dr. Nishanth Krishna K spoke on Study Design and Writing Methodology, explaining different research designs in an easy manner. This was followed by a session on Referencing by Dr. Agnes Moira D’Souza, highlighting correct citation methods and the importance of avoiding plagiarism. The programme ended with a session on Ethical Issues in Research by Dr. Sasikumar S, who emphasized ethical approval, informed consent, and honesty in research.
Based on the feedback analysis, about 90% of the participants rated the FDP as very god to excellent in terms of content and delivery. Nearly 88% felt the program enhanced their understanding of research methodology, and 85% expressed interest in attending similar programmes in the future. It helped faculty members improve their research skills and gain confidence in guiding student research. Mrs. Jacintha Valder eloquently hosted the Faculty Development programme.
