The Mental Health and Child Health Nursing Department of Father Muller Nursing College Thumbay, in collaboration with Arivu Early Intervention Centre, Shakthinagar, Mangaluru, observed World Autism Awareness Day on 30th April 2026 at 10:00 AM. The programme aimed to create awareness about autism, promote inclusivity, and highlight the importance of early intervention and holistic care for children with developmental needs.
The event began with a prayer song followed by the ceremonial lamp lighting. The gathering was formally welcomed by Ms Preethi Fernandes, V Semester Student, setting the tone for a meaningful and engaging session. The keynote session was delivered by Dr. Jason Glen Dsouza, Senior Resident, Paediatric Department, FMMCH, on the theme “Autism and Humanity: Every Life Has Value.” The talk emphasized compassion, early diagnosis, and the role of healthcare professionals in supporting children with autism and their families.
This was followed by an informative session by Dr. Archana Bhat, Professor, Department of Medicine, FMMCH, on “Hydration Matters,” highlighting the importance of maintaining adequate hydration in children, especially those with special healthcare needs. An address by Mrs. Poornima Founder Director, Arivu Early Intervention Centre added valuable insights into caregiving and support systems.
The programme was presided over by Dr. K. Sundara Bhat, President, Arivu, who delivered the presidential address, emphasizing the need for community awareness and multidisciplinary collaboration. The event also featured interactive and cultural activities including cake cutting, dance performances, games, fashion show by children and action songs, making the programme lively and inclusive for all participants.
