Feast of St Gerard Majella

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Nursing Service Department of Father Muller Medical College Hospital and Father Muller college of nursing celebrated the feast of St Gerard Majella, the patron saint of happy child birth, antenatal women and postnatal mothers on 15th, October 2022 at the Hospital Conference Hall.

The celebration commenced with a solemn Mass at 7.45am in the Hospital Chapel, followed by a programme at 9.30 am.

The programme began by invoking the blessings of the Almighty through a prayer song depicting the miracles of St Gerard through a role play led by Sr Pearl and team.

Dr Deepa Kanagal, Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department extended a cordial welcome to the gathering. Rev Fr Ajith Menezes, Administrator, FMMC extended a floral welcome to Dr Sr Lenita Dsouza, Chief guest of today's programme. This was followed by lamp lighting by the dignitaries and garlanding of St Gerard portrait which marked the beginning of the ceremony.

Dr Sr Linet Dsouza, Medical Director, Nirmala Hospital Ullala, Mangaluru, was the Chief Guest for the programme. Speaking on this occasion she said, Today we are celebrating a family feast, a feast of our own saint. She appreciated the OBG doctors and nurses who render services with a smile and appreciated the team work in keeping up the spirit of feast. She also stressed on the miracles she encountered through Saint Gerard during her practice.She also said that the nursing faculty must value the intercession of St Gerard Majella and enormously thank St Gerard for all the favours he has bestowed on us.

Dr Sr Linet Dsouza, Medical Director, Nirmala Hospital Ullala, Mangaluru,was felicitated with garland, memento, fruit basket and sapling by the dignitaries on the occasion.

Presiding over the ceremony, Fr Ajith Menezes, Administrator FMMC, said, St Gerard is a great blessing from God. He stressed on the difference between love of power and power of love. Let us not go in search of miracles but rather be a miracle to others and for this, one needs to start with a simple smile. Nurses are the first ones to see the transition from mother to motherhood. Let this fragrance of smile spread around. He also congratulated all the doctors and nurses on the occasion.

As a part of the festal celebrations, the department had organized various activities for the antenatal and postnatal mothers of the OBG ward and prizes were distributed to the winners by Sr Dhanya Devasia, Chief Nursing Officer.

All the antenatal and postnatal mothers admitted in the OBG wards of FMMCH participated in the programme.

Fr Jeevan Sequeira, Assistant Administrator, Fr Nelson Pais, Fr Rohan Dias, Assistant Administrator, Dr Antony Sylvan Dsouza, Dean, FMMC, Dr Udaykumar, Medical Superintendent,  Fr George Sequiera, Chaplain of FMCI, Sr Dhanya Devasia, Chief Nursing Officer, Nursing superintendent, Assistant nursing superintendents, ward incharges, antenatal staffs were present for the occasion.

Ms Shanthi Veena Vas, Assistant Nursing Superintendent rendered the vote of thanks. Ms Wellisha Treena Lobo, 2nd Yr Bsc Nursing, compered the programme.
