Gold for FMMCH: Marking 10 Years of NABH Accreditation and World Quality Week 2025

Father Muller Medical College Hospital (FMMCH) celebrated a major milestone with the completion of 10 years of NABH Accreditation and the closing ceremony of World Quality Week 2025, held under the theme “Think Differently.”

FMMCH achieved a landmark recognition from August 29, 2025, (delivered to FMMCH on 10 Nov 2025) by receiving the NABH Digital Health Standards Gold Certification—a prestigious honour awarded to institutions that demonstrate advanced digital maturity, seamless technology integration, and a strong commitment to patient-centric digital healthcare.

This certification acknowledges FMMCH’s comprehensive digital ecosystem, built over years of innovation and progressive transformation. Our robust Electronic Medical Records (EMR), fully integrated Radiology and Laboratory systems, Biomedical Equipment Management, Transport Bay automation, and the state’s largest Pneumatic Chute System reflect our focus on speed, accuracy, and safety in patient care.

The recent introduction of the Digital Quality Management System, along with Voice-to-Text documentation, BMW Barcode Tracking, and automated workflow platforms, further strengthens our efficiency and transparency.

Receiving the NABH Digital Gold Standard places FMMCH among India’s pioneers in digital healthcare—validating our commitment to combining compassionate care with cutting-edge technology. It stands as a testament to our pursuit of excellence, innovation, and patient safety in every aspect of hospital functioning.

World Quality Week featured a Lean Six Sigma Workshop, WOW (Wealth Out of Waste) Competition, Seminar on Incident RCA & CAPA, and a Memory Game Challenge. The programme began with a prayer by the Nursing Department, followed by the formal inauguration.

Administrator FMMCH Rev. Fr. George Jeevan Sequeira reflected on FMMCH’s ten-year journey of quality advancement, supported by the audio-visual presentation “Journey of FMMCH in Quality.” He went on to explain on how the journey of exceelnec began at FMMCH which is rooted in a 145-year legacy shaped by the vision of Rev. Fr Augustus Muller, S.J., whose mission of compassion and service laid the foundation for an institution built on ethics, healing, and trust. This enduring legacy continues to guide us as we uphold his commitment to quality care.

FMMCH’s NABH journey began on August 3, 2015, marking a major milestone in our pursuit of structured, safe, and ethical healthcare. Since then, we have successfully completed three cycles of accreditation—each strengthening our culture of continuous improvement—and now embark on the Fourth Cycle (Aug 3, 2025 – Aug 2, 2029).

NABH Accreditation Timeline:
• 1st Cycle: Aug 3, 2015 – Aug 2, 2018
• 2nd Cycle: Aug 3, 2018 – Aug 2, 2021
• 3rd Cycle: Aug 3, 2021 – Aug 2, 2025 (NABH 5th Edition)
• 4th Cycle: Aug 3, 2025 – Aug 2, 2029 (NABH 6th Edition)

These cycles reflect our growth in patient safety, accountability, and operational excellence—transforming quality from a requirement into an institutional habit.

Alongside this, FMMCH has undergone a remarkable period of digital transformation—truly moving “From Paper to Pixels.” Key milestones include:
• 2013: Public Folder Access, SMS Alerts
• 2014: Hospital Information System
• 2017: Document Management System, Digital Incident Reporting, IT-enabled Maintenance & Housekeeping
• 2022: Biomedical Equipment Management System
• 2023: EMR, Radiology and Lab Automation, Transport Bay System, Pneumatic Chute System
• 2024–2025: Voice-to-Text Documentation, Leave Management System, BMW Barcode Tracking, and the launch of a unified Digital Quality Management System

These advancements strengthened our foundation and led to major recognitions, including:
• 2022: CAHO – 2nd Place (South Region) for ACE A Quality Initiative in CSSD
• 2024: Endo-Safe Audit completion
• Aug 29, 2025: NABH Digital Health Standards Gold Certification, positioning FMMCH among India’s leaders in digital healthcare.

Every achievement stands on the dedication of our Management Committee, doctors, nurses, support staff, and quality teams—whose commitment, discipline, and compassion sustain our standards of excellence.

FMMCH received its 4th Cycle NABH Accreditation and the NABH Digital Health Standards Gold Accreditation and the certificates were  presented by Dr. Prathvi Shetty and Dr. Helen Gnanakalanjiam to the Management—affirming the institution’s continued dedication to safety, standardization, and digital transformation.

Rev. Fr Richard who spoke on behalf of those honored having himself immersed along with Dr Sanjeev Rai into the ‘new’ accreditation system then. He elaborated on the journey they took and how he penned each word and implemented the same at FMMCH during his tenure as an Administrator FMMCH. What had seemed impossible by those on the outside began possible with sheer determination and zeal of the collective FMMCH workforce, thus placing FMMCH on a pedestal of uniqueness. 


A major highlight of the event was the launch of MedBlaze, FMMCH’s new digital Quality Management System. Introduced by Ms. Jyothi Seema Moras, Assistant Quality Control Manager, the platform aims to streamline processes, enhance transparency, and support ongoing quality enhancement initiatives.

Renowned quality leader and NABH Principal Assessor and Member Steering Committee of NABH, distinguished Pulmonologist, Head of Medical Education at KMC Mangalore, and Head – Quality at Manipal Health Enterprises Pvt Ltd, Dr Anand R delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the ongoing journey of excellence and patient-centred care. He was later felicitated by the Director.

·         Best Nursing Staff 2025: Ms. Melita Pinto

·         Best Private Ward: Asha Kiran – 5th Floor

·         Best General Ward: G Ward

Winners of the WOW, Photography, and Memory Game competitions, along with judges, were also honoured.

Rev. Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director FMCI, in his presidential address reaffirmed FMMCH’s commitment to excellence and compassion. The collaborative efforts put in by the former torch bearers still carries on through the new generation of healthcare personnel. The strive put in is a learning and excellence is the only way forward.

Dr. Helen Gnanakalanjiam delivered the Vote of Thanks, acknowledging all who contributed to the success of the celebrations. The event, compeered by Ms. Chitra Yatindhra and Ms. Alvita Saldanha, highlighted the institution’s enduring commitment to quality, patient safety, and innovation.

As FMMCH celebrates this significant decade, it looks ahead with renewed purpose—continuing to innovate, uphold quality, and serve with heart.
